A WORKING TRADITION
Trapping is older
than the roads west.
Long before modern highways crossed the Midwest, trappers and fur traders moved by river, canoe, snowshoe, and foot. Their work helped map routes through the Great Lakes and Upper Missouri country, and the tools they carried were built to be repaired, reused, and trusted season after season.
That old-school spirit still matters. Trapping asks for patience, close observation, knowledge of weather and animal sign, and respect for the land. Today’s regulated trapping tradition also supports furbearer management, education, and conservation work.
